Recently, I decided to try to put some of my used bottle caps to work and made some bottle cap magnets. I took a photo on my cell and sent it to the Twitter and Facebook page where I received positive feedback.
The beauty is doing something like this yourself is really simple. I just went to a craft store, in this case Michaels, and bought some thicker magnets and glue. From that point the process is really simple.
Step 1: Choose which caps you want to use. Try to find the ones you didn’t mangle to badly when opening the bottle and the ones that are cool, unique or just your favorites.
Step 2: Wash the bottle caps. I just soaked them in hot soapy water for 5 minutes and then scrubbed the inside with sponge and rinsed.
Step 3: Let them dry, glue won’t stay as strong if wet.
Step 4: Let the glue set, I used Loctite which said to allow at least 10 minutes. I gave it 15-20 minutes, no reason to be impatient.
Step 5: Put them up and enjoy!
One thing I might try next time I make a set is to pry the sides of the caps out a little so they are not as deep. With the magnets I used while they stick to the fridge if I wanted to try to hold something up the seal to the fridge isn’t as tight due to the sides of the bottle cap getting in the way.
Well, there you have it simple and easy process and cool craft beer art.
