Bottoms Up Dispensing

By Seth on December 26, 2010 in Beer, beer gadgets, Beer Reviews, craft beer

Recently, due to our friends at Untappd we learned of a product from Grin On Industries called the Bottoms Up Dispensing System(R)

Here is a video of the system in use courtesy of LiveLeak.com

Now forget the fact that it is Bud being served as the product can be attached to any Keg dispensing system.  My concern are as follows:

  • Its wasteful: the cups can only be used once and I am sure its not sanitary to reuse them.   There is a magnet in the bottom that gets pushed up to allow the beer in and then comes back down to seal the cup.  The magnet can be removed and placed on your fridge, only cool concept.
  • Beer needs to aerate to create head.  While most consumers feel they are being cheated when they get served a beer with a large head a true beer geek knows that the head releases the aromas essential to enjoying a good a beer.

Overall, yes its a cool concept and has its place in sporting arenas and festivals, however I hope this gimmick stays out of my craft beer bars and sticks to being used on “low quality” beers like Bud.

Anyways, I hope some of the experts will weigh in and share with us what they think about this system.

And that’s … From My Mellin!
